Biography

Dr. Anja Kanngieser is a political and cultural geographer working at the intersections of labour self-organisation, migration, experimental politics, the voice and radio. She is primarily interested in political and social collectives that use creative strategies to compose temporary commons and organisations by which to re-imagine potential political landscapes. She was awarded her PhD in October 2009 jointly from the School of Culture and Communication (Media) and the School of Land and Environment (Cultural Geography), University of Melbourne. She has been a long term researcher on the ARC funded project Culture in Transition: Creative Labour and Social Mobilities in the Asian Century (University of Western Sydney), and has been a lecturer in Communications and Media at Birkbeck College, University of London and RMIT University, Melbourne. She is currently an ESRC post-doctoral fellow in Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her monograph ‘Experimental Politics and the Making of Worlds’ will be released by Ashgate in October 2013. She is the 2013 recipient of the Progress in Human Geography Essay Prize.
